Ananda Devices wins Montréal stop of the Canadian Export Challenge Pitch Competition and moves onto National Competition

Montréal, QC – <September 24, 2018> | This evening, Ananda Devices was named the winner of the Montreal Canadian Export Challenge Pitch Competition. Margaret Magdesian won $1,000 and a trip to Ottawa to pitch for the grand prize at Startup Canada Day on the Hill to CBC NextGen Dragon Nicole Verkindt and former Dragon, W. Brett Wilson, for the grand prize of $10,000 in the capital and up to $100,000 in resources and support.

Montréal based company, Ananda Devices produces microchips to grow human tissues. In doing this, Ananda Devices can discover treatments and cures for human diseases efficiently and cost effectively, and works to find a model that is much closer to human patients, rather than standard practices of testing on animals.

“It is so nice to see so many people involved in innovation and in the Startup world who are trying to help us, we really feel supported by Canada,” said Margaret Magdesian, Founder and CEO of Ananda Devices. “I know we can deliver, but now we are asking for help to make Canada a major player.”

“I can invision Ananda Devices becoming a household name, a name known in hospitals and care facilities globally. With their exceptionally innovative technology and drive to steer away from animal-testing, their product is set to become a global game-changer in health-tech,” said Victoria Lennox, CEO of Startup Canada. “We know Margaret and her Team will represent Québec with pride in Ottawa in October at the final pitch competition.”

Presented by Startup Canada in partnership with UPS Canada®, Export Development Canada, and the Canadian Trade Commissioner Service, the Canadian Export Challenge in Montreal showcased and supported more than 150 borderless businesses to go global.

Margaret is set to travel to Ottawa to represent Montreal’s global startups on October 18th, where she will have the opportunity to pitch to win the grand prize and title as Canada’s 2018 Global Entrepreneur, receiving a whole host of support and funds.

Follow the Canadian Export Challenge as it continues to tour across Canada stopping in Halifax on September 26th, and ending in Vancouver on October 2nd. The winner of the grand prize will be announced October 18th in Ottawa.
