Vancouver Area Entrepreneurs Take Home Cash Prizes at National Startup Global Pitch Competition

Langley, B.C – Monday, May 15, 2024 |  Today, Startup Canada announced the winner of the Langley  “Pop-up Pitch” Competition, the regional qualifier for the 2024 Startup Global Pitch Competition Grand Finale. Pitching in front of the in-person audience of Startup Canada Tour’s most recent stop in Langley, founder Dr. Mallory Flynn of Insporos was named the first-place winner – taking home $3,000 cash and a guaranteed slot in the October 30th Grand Finale. Ranah Chavoshi of PhyCo Technologies Inc. won the People’s Choice Award and took home a $1,000 cash prize.

Insporos is an intelligence seed sorter that leverages AI and some novel components to look at seeds and gather data in a unique way, providing seed insights to find diseased and defective seeds.

“My experience in the Startup Global Pitch Competition was really positive,” said Flynn. “It was great to meet fellow founders. Every business is so different, and every founder is coming at this from a different perspective.”

PhyCo Technologies Inc. is a marine biotechnology company focused on seaweed aquaculture and manufacturing compostable plastics in partnership with Indigenous Nations. “I was very happy to be here and be invited to pitch,” shared  Chavoshi. “It was refreshing and incredible to feel supported by different entrepreneurs from diverse backgrounds.”

On October 30th, in Kitchener-Waterloo, Dr. Mallory Flynn will compete live against nine other finalists from across Canada for a $70,000 cash prize pool. The Grand Finale of the 2024 Startup Global Pitch Competition will be available to watch live virtually and in-person through Startup Canada Tour registration.
