Startup Canada to Host First Stop of Cross-Canada Event Series in Whitehorse

WHITEHORSE, CANADA – February 15, 2023 – Today, Startup Canada has launched the locations and dates for Startup Canada Tour, a five stop national in-person event series connecting small business owners and creators with local support organizations and industry experts to drive their businesses forward.

Startup Canada Tour will kick off its first of five stops in Whitehorse, Yukon, on Tuesday, April 25, at the Kwanlin Dün Cultural Centre. The one-day event welcomes small business owners, creative entrepreneurs, and national and local support organizations to come together and grow their networks, learn from industry experts, and gain tools and insights to build their businesses!

“The last few years have been challenging for Canadian entrepreneurs,” says Kayla Isabelle, CEO of Startup Canada. “Startup Canada Tour is a great opportunity for early stage entrepreneurs and people interested in starting a business to come together and learn about the unique supports available to them both regionally and across Canada. We want to make Canada the best place to start a business, no matter your location or level of experience.”

Throughout the day, attendees of Startup Canada Tour – Whitehorse will have access to a series of keynotes, panels, and workshops featuring fellow entrepreneurs, private and public sector support organizations, and key industry leaders. Attendees will also have the opportunity to connect 1:1 with mentors, support organizations, and fellow entrepreneurs in Ask the Expert Lounges.

“Yukon’s vibrant ecosystem of makers, entrepreneurs, creatives, and startups is strengthened by the level of collaboration that exists between this community and its partners,” says Dr. Brendan Hanley, Member of Parliament for Yukon. “Events such as Startup Canada’s Tour stop in Whitehorse create space for Yukoners to come together to learn, share, and grow. Our government, through CanNor, is committed to working alongside partners to support the continued growth of Yukon-driven innovation and entrepreneurship through this event and beyond.”

Startup Canada Tour – Whitehorse is presented in partnership with UPS, with national support from Canada’s LGBT+ Chamber of Commerce (CGLCC), and regional support from the Canadian Northern Economic Development Agency (CanNor). Additional partners and speakers will be announced in the coming weeks.

“Small- and medium-sized businesses, innovators and startups represent the backbone of local economies,” states The Honourable Dan Vandal, Minister of Northern Affairs, PrairiesCan and CanNor. “They generate quality local jobs and are a source of pride for their communities. By working with industry partners such as Startup Canada, we will continue to support the sustainable growth of economic sectors with a focus on strengthened entrepreneurship and Northern innovation.”
