There’s a new host behind the Startup Canada microphone, and his name is Rick Spence.

Matthew Curtis, Startup Canada’s digital warlock behind #StartupChats and the Startup Canada Podcast and THRIVE Podcast for women entrepreneurs, is passing the torch on to Rick – a business journalist, editor, public speaker and entrepreneur. 

Rick is the former editor and publisher of PROFIT, The Magazine for Canadian Entrepreneurs. He has also edited the University of Toronto Magazine as well as Director, the journal of the Institute of Corporate Directors. For 15 years, he wrote a weekly column on entrepreneurship and innovation for the National Post and Postmedia newspapers across Canada – reaching almost one million people per week.

Rick is the author of Secret of Success from Canada’s Fastest-Growing Companies (published by Wiley), the first Canadian book on scaling a business.  His next book explores the growth and impact of NEXT Canada, the country’s boldest startup accelerator. 

As a professional speaker on growth, innovation and entrepreneurship, Rick has spoken at more than 200 conferences and events in Canada and the United States. He has also taught a course on entrepreneurship at Ryerson University.

As the newest voice of the Startup Canada Podcast, Rick’s sharp wit and jovial tone will delight, excite, and inform listeners on entrepreneurial issues and personalities from coast to coast to coast.
