Gabrielle Scrimshaw considers herself to be an accidental activist. After traveling the world and connecting with Indigenous populations in Australia, New Zealand, and Peru, Gabrielle found the strength to startup.“People everywhere in the world are just like figuring it out. Nobody is giving you permission to do anything. You just have to go out and do it.” Gabrielle is the Co-Founder of the Aboriginal Professional Association of Canada, an organization that offers services and programming for First Nations, Métis and Inuit professionals. Born in Northern Saskatchewan, Gabrielle left Canada to travel the world and study, where she learned about international business and policy. She’s a globally recognized speaker and has given her voice to nearly 100 speaking engagements. Gabrielle is honoured in the highest regard by her community as the recipient of Indspire’s 2013 First Nations Youth award. Today, Gabrielle is a full time student and dual degree candidate at the Stanford Graduate School of Business and Harvard Kennedy School. In this week’s #StartupPodcast, host Rivers Corbett talks to Gabrielle about how she’s creating a platform to support the next generation of Indigenous entrepreneurs.
