Untapped Accessibility
Trish Kelly
Since its launch in October 2022, Untapped Accessibility has become a leading Canadian accessibility consulting firm. As a certified social enterprise, Untapped has a dual purpose: to generate revenue for the Open Door Social Services Society and to create work opportunities for professionals with disabilities.
Trish launched Untapped soon after the passing of the Accessible BC Act and the Accessible Canada Act. Trish saw a market opportunity to help regulated organizations interpret and operationalize the requirements in the legislation. She believed that an accessibility consulting firm rooted in a modern understanding of disability and spotlighting the expertise of disabled professionals could offer fresh, powerful solutions to accessibility barriers.
Informed by the social model of disability, Untapped’s approach centres flexibility, individual choice, and a proactive approach to barrier removal that improves experiences for people with apparent and non-apparent disabilities.
Untapped has already supported over 225 organizations including nonprofit, public sector, and private sector organizations to create truly inclusive experiences for employees and the communities they serve.
Led by Trish, the Untapped team is a living example of accessibility principles in action. The majority of hours on any project are contributed by professionals with disabilities or chronic illness. To date, professionals with disabilities have contributed over 15,000 hours of their expertise to client projects. Untapped is also a certified Living Wage Employer.
