Tech Prep List for Host:
- Speak into the microphone (keep mouth 2″ away from the microphone)
- Make sure you have the guest’s skype contact in your contacts ready to call
- Have your script and questions ready
- Make a new folder on your computer for each of the interviews
- Copy (don’t move) over your recorded files into the corresponding google drive folder here: Google Drive Link
External Hardware
- Plugin in Microsoft LifeChat LX-3000 USB headset into your computer
- Plugin H4 Audio Device into your computer
- Select “AUDIO I/F” by using the scroll wheel on the right-hand side of the recorder and depress the same wheel to make the selection.
- On the second screen scroll down and select to ‘connect’
- Please wait until the audio device finished and you should see a screen that says ‘USB AUDIO I/F’ with two moving sound bars.
- Under the ‘input’ column of buttons make sure to press the round button labeled ‘1’. It should be the only button that is then illuminated red. You should see the L/R levels move as you speak into the microphone.
Computer
1) Under your Mac Computer System Settings, in the Audio section, make sure:
“Output” tab has Microsoft LifeChat LX-3000 selected
“Input” tab has H4 selected
3) Under your Skype Preferences, in the “Audio/Video” tab, make sure:
Microphone has H4 selected
Speakers has Microsoft LifeChat LX-3000 selected
Software
1) Start the Audio Hijack software and select from the podcast preset you created.
2) Your screen should look like this below.
3) Click on both of the blue “Recorder” boxes and point the ‘save to’ location under your new folder. (Make a new folder for each episode)
4) Call the Guest on Skype.
5) Press the record button in Audio Hijack to start the recording
6) Speak into the front of the microphone with your lips close to the microphone
7) Do a 3, 2, 1, GO! countdown with the guest to sync for post-porduction
8) When done stop the recording and drag files here to the Google Drive Link
