iPolitics Helping to Give Entrepreneurs a Voice in Ottawa
Located in the heart of Ottawa”s Byward Market, one block away from Parliament Hill, a disruptive startup company is taking Ottawa politics by storm. iPolitics and Startup Canada are teaming up again this year to give entrepreneurs a voice in Ottawa through Startup Canada Day on the Hill.
Making politics and policy accessible to Canadians
iPolitics is the brainchild of founder James Baxter. With the intention of providing Canadians with access to excellent content and timely news on politics, iPolitics was created in 2011 as an independent, nonpartisan, up-to-the-minute news service. In just three years, iPolitics has become a leader of Canadian political news.
When you subscribe to iPolitics, it is impossible to be out of the loop. If you are a news enthusiast you can subscribe to receive exclusive content, morning and evening briefs of key issues, as well as immediate alerts that notify you of breaking news as it happens. You can customize the content you receive by opting in or out of specific categories. If you are more leisurely reader, exclusive content becomes public after 12 hours. And, if you want to speak your mind and engage with other readers, there is a live interactive forum called Soapbox where readers are invited to provide their opinions, solutions and ideas on political issues.
“We are entrepreneurs in everything we do,” says Sally Douglas, the Deputy Publisher of iPolitics. “From our coaching and mentoring programs to where and how we work and from the way our team collaborates together to our ability to think beyond the traditions of journalism, we are pushing the bar to provide the best service to our readers and subscribers.”
Partnering to give entrepreneurs a voice
iPolitics is supporting Startup Canada by leveraging its channels to help to spread the word in the Capital about Startup Canada Day on the Hill and by inviting MPs, Senators and Ministers to meet with entrepreneurs on November 26th.
The media company is also hosting a VIP kick-off party the evening before the big day with MPs and special guests from the Startup Canada community in their suave office in the Byward Market, as well as covering the events on November 26th live on social media and providing guests with a special subscription offer.
Hosting the Liberal Members of Parliament
As the independent voice of entrepreneurs in Canada, Startup Canada advocates for entrepreneurs to the Government across all parties. Liberal Members of Parliament will be attending the evening reception, with special guests Ted Hsu, Liberal Critic for Science and Technology and Carolyn Bennett, Liberal Critic for Aboriginal Affairs and Chair-Liberal Women’s Caucus. Some key topics for discussion will focus on the importance of building a strong entrepreneurship ecosystem to increase the success of entrepreneurs; the role of Startup Canada as a critical resource connecting and giving a voice to Canada”s entrepreneurship community; and, how together, Startup Canada and the Government of Canada maximize public investments in economic development infrastructure and help entrepreneurs to create jobs and economic growth for Canada.
