FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Toronto, ON (Friday, April 20, 2012) – Startup Canada’s potential for connecting and motivating entrepreneurs across the country is what attracted Kick Ass Media to join the campaign as a sponsor, says the Toronto-based startup.
Kick Ass Media, an entrepreneurial success story in its own right produced the custom signage, displays and other promotional props being used at Startup Canada’s Town Hall and other Fringe Events during its six-month National Tour.
“We receive requests daily from organizations across Canada and we donate/sponsor to a lot of great causes but this one seemed to suit our ideals and our customers,” said Chris Crawford, Founder of Kick Ass Media and a self-described entrepreneur at heart. “We regularly work with people that are starting businesses, opening stores and trying to figure out how to get found. Startup Canada seemed like a great way to get involved (even if indirectly) with entrepreneurs as well as help us to connect with many of them directly with the help of Startup Canada.”
Startup Canada, which launches officially in Ottawa on May 2 but kicked off its National Tour in March, is a grassroots, entrepreneur-led movement to enhance the nation’s competitiveness and prosperity by supporting and celebrating entrepreneurship.
Entrepreneurial roots run deep at Kick Ass Media. Over the last five years the promotional print company has grown from a handful of employees working out of Crawford’s home, to expanding to small print shop in Toronto, to now operating multiple locations across Canada. Its client list includes entrepreneurs and startup companies, as well as larger international brands like Ford, Disney, Yahoo!, and Samsung.
“I was really pleased to welcome Kick Ass Media as a Startup Canada sponsor because they are an excellent example of how a strong entrepreneurial culture can foster creative, innovative, and successful small businesses in Canada,” says Victoria Lennox, Startup Canada Co-Founder. “In working with our sponsors, we look to work with companies that share our passion for entrepreneurship and with whom we can grow. We are excited to work with Chris and his Team at Kick Ass Media.”
As the Startup Canada campaign travels through PEI, Ontario and New Brunswick this May before heading west to the prairies, Crawford says he will be keeping tabs on the discussion and the outcomes.
“For some entrepreneurs this campaign will offer enough motivation to get them out the door and get going,” Chris says. “For others there could be a small take away that benefits a smaller aspect of what they do. Either way, I think the long-term effect will inspire positive change for Canadian entrepreneurs.”
In addition to being championed by patrons such as Brett Wilson (Host of RiskyBusinessTV, former Dragon & serial entrepreneur), Heather Reisman (Founder, Indigo Books & Music), and Dani Reiss (Founder, Canada Goose), Startup Canada has also received support from a number of ambassadors and industry sponsors such as Microsoft, Gowlings and Ernst & Young.
Other sponsors include Artik, PubliAir, VideoBooth the Association of University Research Parks Canada, the Canadian Association of Business Incubation, the Evidence Network, Francis Moran & Associates, FreshBooks, MSBi Valorisation, NextMTL, the Ottawa Technology Transfer Network, Podio, Backbone Magazine, HootSuite, ITWorld Canada, Paper.li, Sprouter, and Techvibes.
