Startup Canada Outlines Entrepreneurship Opportunities for Newfoundland and Labrador at NATI Solutions Summit 2012

St. John’s, NL (Wednesday, March 14, 2012) – A strong entrepreneurial culture will fuel the growth of Newfoundland and Labrador’s business sectors. That is the message Startup Canada Co-Founder Victoria Lennox and Startup Canada Patron Dean MacDonald presented to the Newfoundland and Labrador Association of Technology Industries (NATI) Solutions Summit today in St. John’s, NL.

Although the Startup Canada National Tour doesn’t officially arrive in Newfoundland & Labrador until July 2012, the Solutions Summit’s focus on emerging technologies, social engagement and trends in startups offers a perfect opportunity to generate some early campaign energy in the region.

“The NATI Solutions Summit is an excellent platform to present Startup Canada to the Atlantic technology community and to highlight the entrepreneurial imperative to drive innovation and competitiveness locally and nationally,” said Lennox.

MacDonald, who is President & CEO of Tuckamore Capital, is one of six inspirational Canadian entrepreneurs supporting the Startup Canada Campaign. NATI is involved in the Campaign as one of 10 Provincial Ambassador organizations rallying provincial committees of entrepreneurs and representatives from enterprise support organizations.

Startup Canada’s six-month National Tour launches next week in Halifax, NS with a kick-off ceremony and inaugural Town Hall where participants will develop an action plan and community-led solutions to pressing challenges facing entrepreneurs. The goal is to engage 25,000 Canadians and 250 partner organizations across Canada through 30 Town Halls,

100 Fringe Events, and a social media groundswell.

“Much like National Tour events across the country, the NATI Solutions Summit provides an excellent forum for discussion of the key issues faced by local entrepreneurs and small business,” said Lennox.

Other NATI conference speakers included Sarah Prevette, Founder of Sprouter.com; Marc Saltzman, Host of Tech Talk; and Gerry Pond, Chairman of Mariner Partners Inc.
